DID Press: Pakistan recorded its deadliest month of 2026 in July, with fatalities from militant attacks and counterterrorism operations reaching their highest level in three years, according to a new report by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies.
The institute said at least 606 people were killed in violence linked to militant attacks and security operations during July. The fatalities included 112 security personnel, 401 militants, 74 civilians, and 19 members of local peace committees.
According to the report, security force fatalities increased by 195% compared with June, marking the highest monthly toll since January 2023 and one of the most severe losses recorded in more than a decade. The number of militants killed also reached a 10-year high, with 401 deaths reported during the month.
The report further documented eight suicide attacks in July, five of which involved vehicle-borne explosive devices, making it the highest monthly number of suicide bombings recorded in the past decade.
The findings indicate that the security situation has deteriorated most sharply in the provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
Overall, more than 2,700 people, including approximately 1,850 militants, have been killed in Pakistan in the first seven months of 2026 in violence related to militant attacks and counterterrorism operations, the report said.
