Anti-Taliban Groups Claim Coordinated Attacks Across Kunduz, Badakhshan and Kandahar

DID Press: Anti-Taliban armed groups have claimed a series of coordinated attacks in northern and southern Afghanistan, saying they targeted Taliban positions in Kunduz, Badakhshan, and Kandahar, highlighting what they describe as an expansion of armed resistance against the Taliban.

The Afghanistan Freedom Front said its fighters launched a rocket attack on Kunduz Airport. The group did not provide details on the timing of the strike or any casualties or damage. It is the second time within a week that the organization has claimed responsibility for an attack on the airport.

Local sources said the attack targeted a gathering of Taliban forces reportedly preparing to be transported by helicopter to Badakhshan.

Meanwhile, informed sources reported that Taliban forces and fighters from the Afghanistan Freedom Front engaged in several hours of clashes in Zebak District. According to the sources, several wounded Taliban members were transferred to a hospital in Baharak District. The Taliban, however, presented a different account, claiming they killed five Freedom Front fighters and forced the group to retreat.

The latest clashes came about two weeks after a previous Freedom Front operation in Zebak, which was described as the first direct armed confrontation between an anti-Taliban group and Taliban forces in Badakhshan since the Taliban returned to power.

In southern Afghanistan, the United Afghanistan Front, led by former army general Sami Sadat, claimed responsibility for attacks targeting two Taliban intelligence members in Spin Boldak and Kandahar city. The group also released a video showing a bloodied armed man lying beside a motorcycle. The Taliban have not commented on the claim.

The United Afghanistan Front announced the launch of its armed campaign in Kandahar last week, saying it would continue military operations until what it called the “liberation of Afghanistan.”
