Taliban Issues Immunity Card to Former Balkh MP Zahir Masrour

DID Press: Taliban’s Commission for Contact with Afghan Personalities has issued an immunity card to Zahir Masrour, a former member of Afghanistan’s House of Representatives from Balkh province, according to the commission.

The card was issued amid continued concerns over the safety of former government officials and security personnel. In its latest quarterly report, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) documented cases of killings and targeted attacks against members of the former government’s security forces.

The Taliban maintains that its leader’s general amnesty decree remains in effect and that former military personnel and government officials should not face retaliation.

The issuance of the immunity card is presented by the Taliban as part of its assurances to former officials regarding their security following the group’s return to power in August 2021.
