Afghan Media Activists Missing in Pakistan for More Than a Month

DID Press: An Afghan journalist and two filmmakers have reportedly been missing in Islamabad for more than a month, with their families still unaware of their whereabouts or fate.

Sayed Qasim Hashemi, a journalist and filmmaker, and Hamid Ehsas, an Afghan filmmaker, reportedly left their home in Islamabad on the evening of July 4 to purchase a camera lens and never returned.

According to Afghan media reports, their families have contacted Pakistani police and courts over the disappearance, but efforts to locate them have so far produced no results.

The vehicle used by the two men was later found in Islamabad. Information released by their families indicates that its GPS location was traced to the D-12 area of the capital, but no trace of Hashemi or Ehsas was found nearby.

Their families have expressed serious concern over their safety and called on the Pakistani government, Islamabad police and security agencies to launch an immediate and thorough investigation into the case and keep the families informed about the progress.

The reported disappearance comes amid increased pressure on Afghan migrants in Pakistan, where authorities have continued arrests and deportations of Afghan nationals.
