Brent Crude Rises Above $90 as Hormuz Disruptions Deepen Supply Concerns

DID Press: Brent crude oil prices briefly climbed above $90 a barrel on Tuesday, as fading hopes for a breakthrough in U.S.-Iran negotiations and continued disruption to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz intensified concerns over global energy supplies. Reuters reported that Brent earlier reached $90.03 before easing to around $87.51.

The latest rise reflects growing uncertainty over the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical energy corridor through which a significant share of global seaborne oil trade passes. Vessel traffic through the strait has fallen sharply, while weekly oil exports have declined to about 3 million barrels per day from 4.4 million barrels per day, according to Reuters.

Market participants have increased purchases as concerns over supply disruptions persist. The possibility of prolonged restrictions on shipping has also increased pressure on transportation and insurance costs, adding to the risk premium in global oil markets.

The latest surge comes despite diplomatic efforts involving Oman and Iran aimed at reducing tensions and facilitating the reopening of the waterway. Reuters reported that no substantive agreement had yet been reached, leaving the market highly sensitive to developments surrounding the talks.

Analysts warn that a prolonged disruption in the Gulf could keep oil prices elevated and increase inflationary pressure on economies that depend heavily on imported energy.
