Muttaqi: No Government Can Survive Through Force

DID Press: Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi has said Afghanistan’s history shows that no government can remain in power by relying on force and pressure against a dissatisfied population.

Speaking in his latest remarks, Muttaqi said Afghanistan’s mountainous geography and ethnic diversity make it impossible to govern the country through coercion.”Afghanistan, because of its mountainous geography and ethnic diversity, is a country where governance based on force and coercion is not possible,” he said.

Muttaqi added that Afghanistan’s social structure requires governments to rely on public consent and participation rather than military power to ensure stability and survival.His remarks come as the Taliban, since returning to power in 2021, have faced criticism over restrictions on political and religious freedoms and the exclusion of women and members of some ethnic groups from public life.

The Taliban have also faced continued challenges over domestic legitimacy and international recognition. Observers say the group’s emphasis on “governance without force” contrasts with reports of widespread social and political restrictions under its rule.
