More Than 3,000 Visit Herat’s Historic Citadel and Museum

DID Press: More than 3,000 people visited the historic Ikhtiyaruddin Citadel and Herat Museum on 24 Asad, marking the anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.

On 24 Asad, the anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, more than 3,000 residents of Herat and people from several other Afghan provinces visited the historic Ikhtiyaruddin Citadel and Herat Museum.

Officials at Herat’s Information and Culture Department said the visitors included young people, university students, teenagers and tourists, who toured different sections of the historic site and viewed artifacts displayed at the Herat Museum.

Hafiz Mohammad Qasim Akhundzada, head of tourism at the Herat Information and Culture Department, said admission to the Ikhtiyaruddin Citadel and Herat Museum was free for visitors on 24 Asad. The measure provided an opportunity for a large number of people to visit the historic site.

He said the strong public turnout at the Ikhtiyaruddin Citadel demonstrated citizens’ interest in the country’s history, culture and valuable heritage.

Akhundzada added that providing free access to historic sites on national occasions offers a valuable opportunity for the younger generation to become familiar with Afghanistan’s historical and cultural heritage.
