DID Press: Russia and Ukraine exchanged overnight strikes on Tuesday, with Ukrainian drones reportedly targeting the Saratov oil refinery in southwestern Russia while Russian forces launched a large-scale missile and drone attack on Kyiv, killing at least two people and injuring several others.
Ukrainian drones reportedly struck the Rosneft-owned Saratov refinery, triggering a fire at the facility. Local Russian authorities confirmed a Ukrainian drone attack in the Saratov region and said several people were injured, although the extent of damage to the refinery remained unclear. The facility has previously been targeted in Ukrainian attacks.
At the same time, Russia launched a major overnight assault on Kyiv and other Ukrainian regions. Ukraine’s Air Force said the attack involved 166 attack drones, as well as ballistic, cruise and anti-ship missiles. Ukrainian authorities reported that air defences destroyed or suppressed 175 aerial targets, while strikes and debris were recorded at 29 locations.
The attack caused deaths and injuries in Kyiv, with residential and non-residential buildings, a school, warehouses and other infrastructure damaged or set on fire. Reuters and Ukrainian officials reported at least two people killed and around 10 injured.
The latest exchange follows a brief pause in attacks on the two capitals during visits by U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Moscow and Kyiv. The renewed strikes underscore the continuing intensity of the war despite renewed diplomatic efforts to revive peace negotiations.
