DID Press: Local sources in Kandahar say Pakistani fighter jets carried out an airstrike early Thursday morning on the residence of Hibatullah Akhundzada, the leader of the Taliban, in the ninth district of Kandahar city.
According to local sources cited by DID press news agency, a weapons depot at the site was destroyed in the attack.
A local source who spoke on condition of anonymity told a DID correspondent in Kandahar that the strikes took place at around 3:30 a.m. local time. The attack was followed by powerful explosions in the area.
“The explosions were strong enough to shake parts of Kandahar city and that around two nearby buildings were also affected,” said sources.
Akhundzada’s residence, locally known as “Mullah Sahib House,” is reportedly among the locations in Kandahar that have been used as a military base and for storing weapons over the past several decades.
As of the publication of this report, no precise information has been released about the extent of the damage or possible casualties. Taliban have also not issued an official statement confirming the reported attack or providing details about any casualties.
