India, UN Discuss Afghanistan’s Humanitarian Needs

DID Press: Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri met with Roza Otunbayeva, the UN secretary-general’s special representative for Afghanistan, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly to discuss the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan, India’s Foreign Ministry said.

According to Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for India’s Ministry of External Affairs, Misri stressed the need to continue addressing the humanitarian needs of the Afghan people as a priority.

Misri also welcomed the work of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) and reaffirmed India’s continued cooperation with the United Nations on Afghanistan-related issues, Jaiswal said in a post on X.

The meeting comes as Afghanistan continues to face significant humanitarian and economic challenges, with international organizations warning of extensive needs among the population.

India has in recent years emphasized the continuation of humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people and cooperation with the United Nations as part of its approach to Afghanistan.
