DID Press: Ali Mohammadi, political deputy of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy, has warned that Iranian forces could target U.S. warships even in the Indian Ocean if Washington launches a new war against Iran.
Iran’s Fars News Agency reported Sunday, Sept. 27, citing Mohammadi that Iran would not limit its response to the Persian Gulf in the event of a new conflict.
Mohammadi also reiterated Iran’s claimed role in controlling and managing the Strait of Hormuz, responding to remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump about the strategic waterway. He said: “If Trump considers the Strait of Hormuz his, then why aren’t his ships and vessels here?”
Separately, Abolfazl Shekarchi, a senior spokesperson for Iran’s armed forces, warned against any U.S. intervention in the Strait of Hormuz, saying such action would trigger a “severe response” from Iran.
Shekarchi has previously said that the initiative in the Strait of Hormuz remains in the hands of Iran’s armed forces and that ships sailing outside routes designated by Iran would not have guaranteed security.
