DID Press: The Atlantic has reported that the war with Iran has become an increasingly influential issue in the positions of some Republican candidates in the United States, with several who previously supported the war now calling for it to end quickly.
According to the report, candidates including Mike Rogers, Ashley Hinson and John Husted have cited rising fuel prices in the United States while calling for an end to the war with Iran.
Meanwhile, some Republican candidates have altered their campaign messaging. Andy Barr, a Republican Senate candidate from Kentucky, removed a photograph of himself with Donald Trump and several references to the U.S. president from prominent sections of his campaign website. He replaced the previous “America First” slogan with “Kentucky First.”
Ralph Alvarado, a Republican House candidate from Kentucky, has also modified parts of his campaign website, removing some images and references to Trump. However, both candidates continue to reference their previous support for or cooperation with Trump in other sections of their campaign websites.
The changes come ahead of the U.S. midterm elections, as the war with Iran and its economic consequences have become subjects of debate in Republican electoral contests.
