China’s Gold Reserves Rise to 2,387 Tonnes After 20.2-Tonne August Purchase
DID Press: China’s central bank accelerated its gold purchases in recent months, adding 20.2 tonnes to its reserves in August 2026—the largest monthly increase since October 2023, according to the World Gold Council.

The People’s Bank of China purchased 5 tonnes in March, 8 tonnes in April, 10 tonnes in May, 15 tonnes in June, 20 tonnes in July and 20.2 tonnes in August, bringing its purchases over the six-month period to about 78.2 tonnes.
Official gold holdings reached 2,387 tonnes by the end of August, while gold accounted for about 9% of China’s total foreign-exchange reserves, up from 8% in July.
The World Gold Council said China’s gold reserves have now increased for 22 consecutive months, reflecting continued efforts by the central bank to diversify its reserves.
