Nearly 6 Million Refugee Children Missed School in 2025

DID Press: UN refugee agency has warned that funding shortages are putting access to education for millions of refugee children at serious risk.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said that of the 13.1 million refugee children of school age worldwide, about 44% — nearly 6 million children — were out of school in 2025.

The UN agency said declining financial resources and insufficient international funding have severely limited refugee children’s access to schools and education.

According to the report, the continuation of the situation could have long-term consequences for the educational and social future of millions of refugee children around the world.

UNHCR has called on the international community to take further action to secure the necessary funding and ensure refugee children’s right to education.
