Pakistan: Main Driver of Rising Poverty in the Region

DID Press: World Bank has announced that Pakistan is home to nearly 48 percent of the poor population in the Middle East, North Africa, and Afghanistan-Pakistan region. According to the report, in 2024, around 14.3 percent of the population in this region lived on less than $3 a day.

The international institution said that rising poverty in the region has been largely influenced by Pakistan’s economic conditions.

The poverty rate in Pakistan also increased by 6.4 percentage points between 2018–2019 and 2024–2025.
