AI-Powered X-Ray Machine Opens at Hospital in Afghanistan’s Badghis Province
DID Press: An artificial intelligence-powered X-ray machine has been commissioned at the provincial hospital in Qala-e-Naw, the capital of Afghanistan’s Badghis province, with financial support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

The machine is valued at more than $72,000, according to the information provided.
Hospital officials said the equipment would help detect tuberculosis (TB) at an early stage and improve disease diagnosis and healthcare services in the province.
The installation comes amid longstanding concerns among Badghis residents about shortages of doctors and medical equipment at healthcare facilities in both the provincial capital and surrounding districts. Residents have repeatedly raised these concerns over the past three to four years, saying the shortages have made it difficult for people to access quality medical care.
The new equipment is expected to strengthen diagnostic capacity at the provincial hospital, although broader shortages of healthcare personnel and medical resources remain a concern for the region.
