Afghan National Salvation Council Accuses Taliban of Violating Property Rights

DID Press: National Council for the Salvation of Afghanistan has condemned the Taliban’s reported forced evictions and displacement of residents in Angor Bagh, Omid-e Sabz Township in Kabul, Jalalabad and other parts of the country, describing the actions as violations of citizens’ rights, unlawful interference with private property and contrary to Islamic Sharia and humanitarian principles.

In a statement, the council said recent actions, including forced evictions, threats against residents and the collection of rent from property owners, had left thousands of families facing uncertainty and insecurity.

The council accused the Taliban of violating citizens’ rights through arbitrary decisions that, it said, lacked a legitimate religious or legal basis, rather than protecting people’s rights and ensuring security and stability.

According to the statement, areas such as Angor Bagh and Omid-e Sabz Township were developed through legitimate processes, urban development projects and lawful investments by Afghan citizens. Thousands of families, it said, had invested their savings and property in these areas in the hope of contributing to Afghanistan’s development.

The council stressed that disregarding these circumstances and undermining citizens’ legitimate property rights not only violated individual rights but also damaged public trust and discouraged investment and development.

Citing Islamic Sharia principles concerning the protection of personal wealth and property, the council said no individual or group had the right to deprive people of their homes or assets without legitimate religious grounds and a fair process. It called on the Taliban to explain the religious and Islamic legal basis for the reported measures.

The council warned that continuing such policies could deepen public distrust, undermine the country’s economic foundations, drive capital out of Afghanistan and intensify social crises.

It urged the United Nations, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, international human rights organisations, religious scholars, national figures and other institutions and individuals not to remain silent in the face of what it described as injustice. The council called for practical and effective measures to prevent further violations of Afghan citizens’ rights.
