Afghan National Charged with Illegal Voting in 2024 US Federal Election

DID Press: US Attorney’s Office for the District of Nevada has announced that an Afghan national named Khalida Safi has been charged with illegally voting in the 2024 US federal election.

According to a statement from the office, Safi, a lawful permanent resident of the United States, voted on November 5, 2024, in an election to choose the president, vice president, and members of the US Senate and House of Representatives.

In the same case, a Sudanese national named Munir Alzubair Ali Yusuf has also been charged with a similar offence. He is accused of voting in the federal election on October 29, 2024.Both individuals face one count of voting by an alien. According to the prosecutor’s statement, the offence carries a maximum penalty of one year in prison, a fine of up to $100,000, or both.

As of the announcement, no date had been set for the defendants’ initial court appearances. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) investigated the case.
