Iran and Afghanistan Honour Figures of Sacrifice and Courage at Event in Mazar-e-Sharif
DID Press: A cultural event highlighting figures associated with self-sacrifice, bravery and freedom was held in Mazar-e-Sharif, northern Afghanistan, with the participation of students, teachers and school administrators.

The event took place on Saturday, 9 Aqrab, at the Ferdowsi Public Library to mark Iran’s Student Day. It was held under the title “From Ali Landi to Riz Ali Khajavi and Mir Masjedi Khan: A School as Vast as Humanity, Sacrifice and Freedom.”
Seyed Rouhollah Hosseini, Iran’s cultural counsellor in Afghanistan, said that excellence should not be measured solely by academic achievements, medals or university accomplishments. He said those who risk or give their lives and personal interests to save others and serve society represent some of the highest examples of humanity.
Hosseini described Ali Landi as a symbol of self-sacrifice, Riz Ali Khajavi as an example of responsibility and altruism, and Mir Masjedi Khan as a figure representing freedom and the pursuit of independence. He stressed the importance of introducing such figures to younger generations to strengthen human and social values.
Referring to the role of the education system, the Iranian cultural counsellor said schools should not serve merely as places for teaching academic subjects and obtaining grades. Instead, they should help develop a generation that is knowledgeable, ethical, creative and responsible.
He also said that highlighting shared cultural and historical figures from Iran and Afghanistan could strengthen mutual understanding and friendly ties between the two nations.
The programme concluded with a cultural competition, awards for outstanding students, and recognition of teachers and school administrators.
