China Voices Serious Concern Over New US Sanctions Ahead of Trade Talks

DID Press: China has expressed serious concern over new US sanctions targeting Chinese companies, as the two countries prepare for another round of trade negotiations and a possible meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the APEC summit in Shenzhen.

China’s Xinhua News Agency reported that Vice-Premier He Lifeng held a video conference with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer to discuss key trade issues.

During the talks, both sides stressed the need to strengthen cooperation, manage differences and maintain stability in bilateral economic and trade relations.

China’s Ministry of Commerce strongly opposed Washington’s sanctions against two Chinese companies, describing the move as harmful to economic ties between the two countries. It urged the United States to revise its restrictive policies as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, the US Treasury Department emphasized the need for China to fully implement its commitments, saying further progress in trade relations would depend on tangible results.

The developments come as a fragile trade truce between the world’s two largest economies remains in place. The next round of negotiations is scheduled to take place in Shenzhen later this month.
