Mohammad Hanif Atmar, former Afghan national security adviser (NSA) and the possible candidate for the upcoming presidential elections reacted against the remarks made by NSA Hamdullah Mohib regarding national security council.
NSA Hamdullah Mohib has recently said that the salaries of the national security council’s staff were paid by different embassies in the country and that the security council was a kinder garden during Atmar’s tenure.
In response to Mohib’s remarks, former NSA Hanif Atmar said in a statement that “NSA Hamdullah Mohib has recently claimed that at the time of Mr Hanif Atmar, a number of National Security Council staff received salaries from embassies, hence their loyalty to the state and the country was questioned. These statements by Mr Mohib and the information provided by him to the people of Afghanistan are completely wrong, deceitful and insulting the security forces of the country, as well as it is an irresponsible act that cannot be left unanswered”.
The statement added that there are points to clarify public opinions:
“In order to clarify and prevent the confusion of the public opinion, it is noteworthy that the National Security Council under the leadership of Mr Hanif Atmar, nobody was paid by foreign embassies. Monthly salaries of all personnel were paid in accordance with the government’s regulations through the Ministry of Finance,” the statement read.
According to Mr Atmar, today, the country’s armed forces, whom their salaries are paid by the international community, are sacrificing their lives for Afghanistan every day. It is not right that a young man, who himself has British citizenship and is unaware of the country’s status make such rash statements.
“We are expecting Mr. Mohib to explain his remarks as soon as possible. If he is still insisting on their point of view, we want an independent public, parliamentary or press delegation to review this issue in order to clarify the public opinions about the truth of this issue,” Atmar’s press office added.
