UN Asks Taliban to Talk with Kabul

The Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan Tadamichi Yamamoto called on Taliban to directly talk with the Afghan government.
On Sunday, the head of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) briefed the Security Council on the situation in Afghanistan.
Mr. Yamamoto highlighted key developments around peace efforts, upcoming elections, human rights, women’s empowerment and the humanitarian situation, UNAMA said in a statement.
According to the statement, Mr Yamamoto reiterated the importance of intra-Afghan talks in any peace process.
