US’s Priority is Peace Accord, not Elections: Expert
“The Afghan government’s plan led by Ashraf Ghani is not acceptable to US government and America is in hurry to achieve peace,” Jawid Kohistani, a political expert told DID press.
According to reports, US special representative on the Afghan peace process Zalmay Khalilzad has recently met his counterparts from China, Russia, and the European Union in Washington and discussed Afghan peace talks.
Afghan political experts, meanwhile, stressed that the peace process and achieving an agreement with the Taliban is more important for America than any other issue.
“The Afghan government’s plan led by Ashraf Ghani is not acceptable to US government and America is in hurry to achieve peace,” Jawid Kohistani, a political expert told DID press.
This comes as president Ghani has repeatedly said that he is seeking a lasting peace and that he needs five years to reach peace with the Taliban.
“America’s highest priority in Afghanistan is to help find an end to 40 years of war,” Khalilzad twitted.
Mr Khalilzad is expected to go to Brussels in the coming days in order to meet some countries involved in Afghan issues.
However, trusted sources say that a peace agreement between Washington, Taliban and the Resistance delegations will be signed by the end of April.
These faces will sign the peace agreement, Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, Abdul Rab Rasoul Sayyaf, Yunis Qanuni on behalf of the resistance zone, Taliban representative Mullah Baradar and US secretary of state Mike Pompeo.
The gradual withdrawal of foreign troops, a permanent cease-fire, the formation of an 18-month interim administration, and the disarmament of the Taliban would be the conditions of this agreement.
The interim government will be governed by a council and will work for holding elections. No member of the acting administration would have the right to candidate themselves for the upcoming elections.
The interim administration is posed while president M. Ashraf Ghani has repeatedly opposed the formation of an interim government.
The executive directorate is also against the interim government plan, said a source from the executive directorate.
The political parties and the electoral tickets believe that the government is seeking to sabotage the peace process and that Mr Ghani is pushing to politically use from the peace process.
The Afghan government emphasis on the ownership of the peace process. The Taliban has so far denied to directly talk with the government.
Wais Ibrahimi, a political expert, said the NUG has realized that America will finally work on the option to establish a temporary government, pointing to the verbal attack of the national security adviser Hamdullah Mohib.
Afghan NSA Hamdullah Mohib has recently accused Zalmay Khalilzad of seeking to create an interim administration and of pursuing his own personal goal in the peace process.
