Khalilzad Discusses Peace with Central Asian Envoys

US special representative on Afghan peace process Zalmay Khalilzad met Friday with Central Asian ambassadors in Washington and discussed a range of issues pertaining to peace in the region.
Khalilzad twitted that “regional support for reaching and implementing an Afghan peace agreement is critical.”

“Equally important is to start planning for how best to seize opportunities for increased regional connectivity, integration, and development that peace will offer,” said Khalilzad, stressing that he was encouraged by what he has heard during a meeting with the envoys.

He also thanked Uzbekistan for gathering the ambassadors in Washington.
Mr Khalilzad also welcomed the meeting between Ashraf Ghani and Pakistani PM Imran Khan on the margins of OIC summit.
The two sides exchanged views on bilateral relations and Afghan peace and reconciliation process.
The PM re-affirmed Pakistan’s commitment to a peaceful and stable Afghanistan,” a PM office said in a statement.

He also underlined Pakistan’s firm support for an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process for political solution in Afghanistan.

“Improved Af-Pak ties are key to reaching, implementing and capitalizing on opportunities for regional connectivity, integration and development,” he added.
