The Afghan government is trying to reactivate Bakhtar airline company which will compete with private companies on domestic flights.
The aim of reactivating the company is to establish a strong state-owned company that can both compete with private companies and be useful in providing air transport services.
A recent meeting of the state-owned corporation oversight committee was chaired by the acting head of the Ministry of Finance M. Hamayun Qayyumi to revive Bakhtar airline company, the Ministry of Finance said in a statement.
The meeting has discussed Bakhtar airline business plan, marketing and branding the company, security plan, flight operations, recruitment and training, and the airline’s charter.
Bakhtar airline company will operate on domestic flights and the Afghan government will relicense the company. The airline was active in the country in the past, but was shut down by civil wars. During Hamid Karzai’s tenure, it was attempted to reactivate the company but the measure failed for unknown reasons.
