ICC Pursues Mullah Haibatullah and Abdul Hakim Haqqani

DIDPress: The International Criminal Court (ICC) announced there is credible evidence indicating that Mullah Haibatullah Akhundzada, the leader of the Taliban’s interim government, and Abdul Hakim Haqqani, the head of the group’s judiciary, have played a role in committing crimes against humanity through issuing orders, incitement, or direct encouragement.

Under the Rome Statute, these crimes include systematic persecution based on gender and political affiliation.

According to the ICC report, the Taliban’s interim government has systematically targeted girls, women, and those who oppose its repressive gender policies, including women’s rights defenders.

Investigations reveal that these actions began after the Taliban’s takeover in August 2021 and continued until January 20, 2025.

The development could pave the way for the international prosecution of Taliban leadership on charges of international crimes.
