No Longer Dependent to Dollar and U.S. Policies, says Brazilian President

DID Press: Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, President of Brazil, sharply criticized the trade policies of U.S. President Donald Trump’s government, stressing that his country is no longer dependent on the United States and will resist the dominance of the dollar.

“Brazil is no longer dependent on the United States as it was in the past, and I will not allow anyone to dictate our economic policies,” Lula said. “I will not yield to dollar.”

Referring to the need to establish an alternative currency system in dealings with other countries, he added: “I will not back down from efforts to create an alternative currency in agreement with other nations. There is no need for me to be bound to the dollar. Trump has crossed the red line.”

Lula’s remarks come at a time when trade and currency tensions between several Latin American countries and the United States have once again returned to the forefront of political discussions
