UN Sounds Alarm on Afghanistan Women’s Crisis

DID Press: According to a recent UN report, 78% of Afghanistani women and young girls are excluded from education and employment—four times the rate among boys.

UN Women warns that policies by the caretaker government are severely affecting women’s health, education, and safety, threatening the future of generations. Restrictions on movement, bans on women studying medicine, and limited access to healthcare leave many without essential services.

If current trends continue, early-age pregnancies could rise by 45% and maternal mortality by over 50% by 2026. In 2023, around 30% of Afghanistani girls under 18 were married, with 10% younger than 15.

The UN stressed that these policies not only violate human rights but also undermine Afghanistan’s social, economic, and healthcare structures, threatening sustainable national development.
