Taliban Seeking Expanded Relations with US to Release Frozen Assets
DID Press: Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the Taliban’s caretaker government, indicated that the group views closer engagement with the United States as essential for the release of Afghanistan’s frozen financial assets.

According to Mujahid, the Taliban administration has established 41 diplomatic missions globally and continues to pursue formal recognition from the international community. He specifically urged Japan to take steps similar to those of Russia, which granted recognition to the caretaker government last month.
Mujahid reiterated that educational policies remain an “internal matter”.
According to him, discussions with the U.S. officials are ongoing in Qatar and other countries, focusing on prisoner exchanges and access to central bank reserves.
He described Washington’s current stance toward Afghanistan as a continuation of wartime policies, while emphasizing that the Taliban has taken measures to promote constructive relations with the United States.
