Poll: September 11 Attacks Brought Major Strategic Gains for US

DID Press: A new survey conducted by DID Press suggests that a large majority of respondents believe September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks ultimately delivered significant political, economic, and military benefits to the United States, despite their human and financial toll.

According to the findings, 77 percent of participants said the attacks “strongly benefited the U.S.,” arguing they provided Washington with an opportunity to launch new wars, consolidate influence in the Middle East, and expand its defense industry.

None of those surveyed chose the option that the attacks had been “only slightly beneficial” to the U.S.

Meanwhile, 8 percent said the tragedy brought no benefit at all, describing it instead as a source of immense costs and casualties.

Another 15 percent believed the event was primarily damaging for Washington, citing prolonged conflicts, reputational decline, and economic strain as key consequences.

The results highlight a prevailing perception that 9/11 was not only a terrorist catastrophe but also a turning point in redefining U.S. global strategy and its long-term interests in the international system.
