UN: ISIS Threat in Afghanistan Declined
DID Press: UN reported a significant reduction in activities of ISIS-Khorasan (ISIS-K) branch in Afghanistan.

Released by the UN Secretary-General, the report notes that ISIS-K attacks in Afghanistan have noticeably decreased lately, both in frequency and geographic scope.
The report highlights that the interim Afghan government forces have continued military operations against ISIS-K strongholds, particularly in Kunar and Nangarhar provinces, resulting in further weakening of the group.
While UN emphasized that the ISIS threat has not been entirely eliminated, the group’s operational capabilities have been limited, and its ability to carry out large-scale attacks has diminished.
In recent years, ISIS-K has claimed responsibility for some of the deadliest terrorist attacks in Afghanistan. However, increased military pressure from Taliban-led caretaker government appears to have pushed the group into a defensive position.
