Trump Pressures Prosecutors to Target Rivals, Raising Fears for US Democracy
DID Press: US President Donald Trump has reportedly pressured Attorney General Pam Bondi to pursue legal action against some of his political opponents, while also announcing plans to appoint a close ally as U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia — a move he said would help “clear the path.”

In a series of social media posts, Trump directly urged Bondi — referring to her by first name — to move swiftly against several of his most prominent critics. Among those singled out were former FBI director James B. Comey, California Senator Adam B. Schiff, and New York Attorney General Letitia James.
“We can’t delay any longer — this is destroying our credibility and reputation,” Trump wrote. “They impeached me twice and indicted me five times, all for nothing! Justice must be served NOW!!!”
Trump also said his intention to nominate Lindsey Halligan, a senior White House aide, as U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, after the dismissal of the incumbent, Erik S. Siebert, on Friday.
Meanwhile, Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer warned that Trump’s attempts to prosecute his political rivals represent “a real threat to democracy.”
“This is a path toward dictatorship,” Schumer added. “Everyone must oppose it.”
