Kyrgyzstan Urges Release of Afghanistan’s Assets Held by Western Countries

DID Press: During the 80th UN General Assembly in New York, Kyrgyzstan’s President Sadyr Japarov called for the release of Afghanistan’s frozen assets, stressing that international isolation and withholding financial aid from the country are unacceptable.

Japarov warned that using financial tools for geopolitical games only worsens the humanitarian crisis, noting that more than $9 billion of Afghanistan assets are currently blocked by Western countries.

These funds can support infrastructure reconstruction, strengthen the banking system, develop agriculture, and create employment opportunities for millions of people, he added.

Kyrgyz president also highlighted the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan, saying over 15 million people suffer from hunger and 24 million are in need of humanitarian assistance.
