Pakistan Urges End to Israel’s Brutal Seizure of Global Sumud Convoy

DID Press: Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, reacted to the Israeli military’s seizure of several ships from the “Global Sumud” humanitarian convoy, calling for an immediate halt to this violent behavior and the urgent release of all detained activists. He wrote on the social media platform X: “This brutal behavior must end. Peace must be given a chance, and humanitarian aid must be delivered immediately to those in need.”

The Global Sumud convoy, aimed at delivering food and medical supplies to the people of Gaza, includes over 50 ships and 500 activists, politicians, and international volunteers. Among the participants are figures such as Greta Thunberg, Mandela Mandela, and Ada Colau. Media reports indicate that starting on the evening of October 1st, several ships of the convoy were seized about 75 miles off the coast of Gaza. Israeli special forces, after disabling the ships’ tracking systems and using water cannons and chemical irritants, stormed the ships and detained at least 12 activists, including Greta Thunberg.

Organizers have described the operation as “mass kidnapping” and “piracy.” Pakistan, condemning the action, emphasized the urgent need to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza and put an end to the violence. The convoy is part of international efforts to break the Gaza blockade and provide essential assistance to its residents.

The seizure of the ships has sparked widespread global reactions, leading to numerous diplomatic and public protests.
