Fazl-ur-Rahman Urges ISI to End Policies Undermining Afghanistan

DID Press: Fazl-ur-Rahman, head of Pakistan’s Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, criticized his country’s security agencies and called for an end to interventionist policies that weaken Afghanistan, emphasizing that instability in Afghanistan ultimately harms Pakistan.

In unusually candid remarks, Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman directly criticized Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the ISI, urging it to abandon approaches that target Afghanistan’s independence and stability.

“The intelligence agency must renounce its past oath to undermine Afghanistan. The mistaken belief that Afghanistan should not be independent and stable must be discarded. Continuing these policies will harm not only the Afghan people but also Pakistan’s national interests,” he asaid.

Fazl-ur-Rehman highlighted political and security consequences of Afghanistan instability, adding: “Experience has shown that an insecure and war-torn Afghanistan has never benefited us. Neighborly relations should be based on mutual respect and shared interests, not hostility or political and military interference.”
