India to Reopen Embassy in Kabul after 3 years

DID Press: Despite not formally recognizing the Taliban government, India is reportedly preparing to reopen its embassy in Kabul, signaling a possible recalibration of New Delhi’s policy toward Afghanistan.

Diplomatic sources said the Indian government plans to upgrade its current limited representation in Afghanistan to full embassy status in the coming weeks.

The move will mark a significant shift in India’s regional approach, reflecting its growing interest in engaging the Taliban administration through diplomatic and economic channels.

India closed its embassy in Kabul in 2021, following the Taliban’s return to power, and has since maintained only unofficial contacts and humanitarian assistance programs in Afghanistan.
