UN: 16 Million Afghans Urgently Need Access to Safe Drinking Water
DID Press: Around 16 million people in Afghanistan urgently need access to safe drinking water, as drought and water shortages affect residents in more than half of the country’s provinces, the United Nations has warned.

Afghanistan is facing a worsening water crisis that has deprived millions of people of access to safe drinking water, according to the UN.
The organisation says residents in more than half of Afghanistan’s provinces are grappling with drought and water shortages, leaving approximately 16 million people in urgent need of safe drinking water.
The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has also warned about the impact of climate change, noting that nearly three-quarters of the world’s displaced people live in climate-vulnerable countries, including Afghanistan.
