Pakistan Deports Over 5,000 Afghan Migrants in a Single Day

DID Press: Amid continuing tensions between Islamabad and the Taliban, Pakistan has deported more than 5,000 Afghan migrants in a single day, according to Taliban officials responsible for refugee affairs.

Taliban’s migration commission reported that 5,117 Afghan nationals were returned to Afghanistan within a 24-hour period through official border crossings, including Spin Boldak in Kandahar, Torkham in Nangarhar, Islam Qala in Herat, and Pul-e-Abrisham in Nimroz.

In the same timeframe, an additional 182 Afghan migrants were reportedly deported from Iran and entered Afghanistan through western border points.

The commission stated that some returnees received initial assistance upon arrival before being transferred to their home provinces.

The report comes as deportations of Afghan migrants from Pakistan have increased significantly in recent weeks, with growing pressure also reported on Afghan families in several Pakistani cities, including eviction warnings from landlords.
