Russia Successfully Tests Nuclear-Powered Cruise Missile

DID Press: President Vladimir Putin announced on Sunday that Russia has successfully completed the final tests of its Burevestnik nuclear-powered cruise missile, describing the weapon as “unique” and possessing “unlimited range.”

In a video released by Kremlin showing his meeting with senior military officials, Putin said: “The final tests are now complete,” and ordered preparations for the missile’s deployment within Russia’s armed forces.

According to Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov, the missile’s latest test took place on October 21, lasting around 15 hours and covering nearly 14,000 kilometers. He added that this range “does not represent the missile’s maximum capability.”

Putin highlighted the system’s technical capabilities, saying: “Burevestnik’s specifications allow it to strike highly protected targets with great precision at any distance.”

First unveiled by Putin in 2018, Russia’s nuclear-powered cruise missile program is now presented by the Kremlin as a symbol of the country’s technological prowess and strategic deterrence—amid the ongoing war in Ukraine.
