Pentagon Approves Tomahawks for Ukraine, Final Decision with Trump

DID Press: CNN reported that the U.S. Department of War has approved the transfer of long-range Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine, and the final decision now rests with U.S. President Donald Trump — a move that could meet one of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s principal weapons requests.

Sources familiar with the matter told CNN that after technical and logistical assessments, the Department of War informed the White House that shipping Tomahawks will not negatively affect U.S. weapons stockpiles. The Joint Chiefs of Staff also told the administration that, from the perspective of European allies, there is no major obstacle to delivering the weapons.

However, two European officials said Trump’s sudden opposition to the transfer surprised Washington’s Western partners.

According to U.S. sources, during a meeting with Zelenskyy on October 17, Trump said “providing such weapons is not easy” and ultimately decided to withhold delivery of the Tomahawks for the time being. Zelenskyy later described the discussion as part of “investing in diplomacy,” saying that even the possibility of sending the missiles conveyed an important political message to Russia.

Military analysts say Tomahawk missiles — which fly at low altitude and are highly accurate — could substantially enhance Ukraine’s ability to strike military targets and energy infrastructure deep inside Russian territory.

In response, Kremlin warned that supplying such missiles to Ukraine would represent a “serious escalation” of the conflict.

Russia has recently continued its military campaign using domestically produced weapons, North Korean ammunition, and Iranian drones.
