Taliban Accused Pakistan of Creating Crises to Enable US Return to Bagram
DID Press: Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the Taliban government, accused Pakistan’s military of attempting to facilitate the return of U.S. forces to Bagram Airbase. Airstrikes, repeated threats, and deadlocks in negotiations indicate Islamabad is creating a new crisis in Afghanistan to pave the way for a U.S. comeback to Bagram, he said.

“While the U.S. wants Bagram, Pakistan is bombing Afghanistan territory, disrespecting Kabul, violating its sovereignty, and continuing threats repeatedly. These actions show they are deliberately muddying the waters to catch fish,” he added.
Mujahid warned that under such conditions, the continuation of a reliable ceasefire is uncertain, as “one side has no authority of its own and merely executes the policies of others.”
He further criticized the contradictory policies of Islamabad: “The civilian government of Pakistan seeks to improve relations with Kabul, but its military intentionally sabotages these relations.”
The Taliban spokesperson described Pakistan’s actions as “dual and contradictory,” adding: “On one hand, they send a special representative to Kabul; on the other, they bomb our land and forcibly expel Afghan refugees from their country.”
Mujahid called Pakistan’s treatment of Afghanistan migrants “illogical and inhumane” and noted: “Islamabad immediately closes the Torkham border and other crossings at the slightest incident; that is the extent of its power.”
He emphasized that the Taliban does not trust Pakistani officials’ commitments but said they will strive for sincere discussions on border issues in upcoming talks in Turkey.
Highlighting the difficulty of controlling the mountainous and forested border between the two countries, Mujahid said: “Even the U.S. and Pakistan themselves could not fully control this border. Ensuring security there requires huge costs.”
He firmly denied the presence of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) leaders on Afghanistan soil and warned Islamabad officials, particularly Pakistan’s defense minister: “Never speak to Afghans with threats.”
