42 Pilgrims Killed in Bus-Tanker Collision in Saudi Arabia
DID Press: At least 42 pilgrims traveling from Mecca to Medina were killed early Monday morning (Nov. 17) when the bus carrying them collided with a diesel tanker. The accident occurred near the Muharras (or Mufrihat) area, about 160 kilometers from Medina, at approximately 1:30 a.m. India Standard Time.

Indian authorities reported that several victims were pilgrims from Hyderabad, though official confirmation of identities has not yet been released.
The Chief Minister of Telangana expressed shock at the incident and instructed immediate follow-up to ascertain details. A state government statement said that the Secretary and Police Chief were asked to coordinate with the Indian Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia to assist in relief operations if necessary.
Meanwhile, Asaduddin Owaisi, Hyderabad’s Member of Parliament, said the bus carrying the Umrah pilgrims caught fire. He immediately contacted Indian embassy officials in Riyadh and spoke with Abu Mathin George, Deputy Chief of Mission, who confirmed that the embassy was collecting information. Owaisi added that passenger details were shared with two Hyderabad travel agencies, the Indian Embassy, and the Ministry of External Affairs.
Owaisi has urged the Indian central government, particularly the Ministry of External Affairs, to facilitate the repatriation of the deceased and ensure prompt medical care for any injured survivors.
Despite Indian officials’ response, details regarding the exact number of victims, their identities, and the condition of any injured remain unconfirmed as Saudi authorities continue investigations.
