TTP Claims Deadly Attack on Peshawar Security Forces HQ

DID Press: Khilafaye Rashideen suicide unit, affiliated with Jamaat-ul-Ahrar, a faction of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), has claimed responsibility for today’s attack on the Federal Guard Command headquarters in Peshawar—an assault that left both the attackers and several security personnel dead.

In a statement released by Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan, the group said its Khilafaye Rashideen suicide squad carried out the operation against the Federal Guard Command headquarters in Peshawar. According to the group’s announcement, three armed attackers were killed during clashes with Pakistani security forces.

Pakistani security officials have also confirmed that three members of the security forces were killed in the attack. The incident has once again highlighted the fragility of the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the persistent challenges Pakistan’s security apparatus faces in containing complex assaults by militant groups.

Security sources in Pakistan have claimed that the slain attackers were Afghan nationals—an allegation previously made in similar cases and one that has often drawn strong reactions from Kabul. The revival of such claims may pave the way for new political pressure from Islamabad on the Taliban government, particularly at a time when relations between the two sides have sharply deteriorated in recent months amid escalating border clashes and mutual accusations.

Security analysts say the continued occurrence of such attacks in the heart of Peshawar demonstrates that TTP’s operational networks still retain significant organizational capacity and reach.

Meanwhile, attributing the assault to Jamaat-ul-Ahrar—one of the more aggressive and violent factions within TTP—suggests that the group is attempting a renewed show of force within Pakistan’s security landscape.

The attack is expected to have broad political and security implications for Islamabad–Kabul relations, as well as for Pakistan’s counterterrorism strategy in the months ahead.
