DID Press: Ministry of Public Works of the Taliban government announced that over the past month, more than 596,000 tons of goods have been imported and exported through Afghanistan’s railway routes—figures that, according to officials, reflect expanding commercial exchanges and the growing capacity of the country’s rail network to support regional trade.

Mohammad Ashraf Haqshenas, spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Works, said a total of 596,797 metric tons of goods were transported via the four railway corridors in the country during the last month.

According to the provided statistics:

Hairatan port handled the largest volume, with 426,451 tons,

It was followed by Torghundi port with 77,242 tons,

The Khaf–Herat railway with 54,140 tons,

And Aqina port with 38,964 tons.

These shipments included petroleum products, non-petroleum goods, and other commercial commodities.

Haqshenas also noted that during the same period, 1,512 tons of goods were exported from Afghanistan, consisting mainly of dried fruits and pomegranate juice.

He emphasized that the increasing volume of railway transport and exports has contributed to the creation of more job opportunities, boosted national revenue, and strengthened the path toward economic stability and self-sufficiency.

According to him, the Ministry of Public Works is working to further facilitate domestic and foreign traders in order to make commercial transport through the country’s railway network more sustainable, organized, and efficient.
