Afghanistan Launches Nationwide Digital Address Mapping Survey

DID Press: Taliban-run National Statistics and Information Authority (NSIA) has announced the launch of a nationwide field survey to develop a digital address system across accessible areas of all 34 provincial centers in Afghanistan. The project is being implemented by the authority’s Directorate for Geographic Information Registration.

According to the NSIA, the initiative aims to accurately register physical addresses, enrich national digital maps, and establish standardized geodatabases to support government planning. During the survey, teams will collect location data on key digital addresses, transportation networks — including roads and streets — as well as geographical information on residential towers, commercial properties, and multi-purpose buildings.

Officials said the results of the fieldwork are expected to play a significant role in improving urban planning, expanding public services, and strengthening management of geospatial information nationwide.
