India Takes BRICS Helm amid Global Turmoil

DID Press: India officially began its one-year BRICS chairmanship on January 1, 2026, taking the helm at a time of heightened international tensions.

New Delhi has pledged to focus on strengthening cooperation among member states and advocating for the Global South, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi outlining a “People First” approach emphasizing sustainability, innovation, collaboration, and green transition.

Analysts note India faces challenge of balancing support for developing nations while avoiding contentious disputes. The country will also host the 18th BRICS Summit during its tenure.
