Afghanistan Faces Drought in North, Heavy Rainfall in East

DID Press: Afghanistan’s National Disaster Management Authority warned of ongoing drought in the northern regions and heavy rain and snow in the eastern provinces over the coming week.

Recent forecasts indicate that reduced precipitation and low snowpack in downstream areas are worsening the unusual drought in northern provinces, including Badakhshan.

Meanwhile, central and eastern provinces are expected to receive 25–75 mm of rainfall equivalent, with some eastern areas facing heavy snowfall. Temperatures across most of the country are predicted to be 1–6°C below normal, with cold waves affecting even low-altitude regions.

Authorities have urged citizens, particularly children and the elderly, to take necessary precautions to reduce risks from cold, snow, and potential flooding.
