DID Press: US President Donald Trump has strongly warned Canada against moving forward with any trade agreements with China, labeling such a move as a threat to Washington’s interests.
Trump criticized the potential for a trade deal between Canada and China, warning Ottawa that should it pursue such an agreement, the U.S. would respond with a “very big” reaction.
He emphasized that the United States does not want China to expand its influence and control over Canada, viewing any extensive trade cooperation between the two countries as a serious threat to American interests.
Referring to Beijing’s efforts to secure a deal with Ottawa, Trump added that if Canada were to sign an agreement that Xi Jinping is pursuing, “China would effectively take control of Canada.”
