Taliban FM Pledges Strong Commitment to Expanding Ties with Tajikistan
DID Press: Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi expressed a “strong commitment” to expanding relations with Tajikistan during a meeting with Tajik Ambassador to Kabul Saadi Sharifi, officials said.

The meeting took place Thursday in Kabul, where Muttaqi highlighted what he described as deep cultural and linguistic ties between the two countries. He said Kabul and Dushanbe could capitalize on existing opportunities to strengthen political, economic and trade cooperation, adding that “no one can undermine the friendly relations” between the two sides.
According to a statement from the Taliban’s foreign ministry, the Tajik ambassador said Dushanbe is seeking to develop relations with Kabul based on “existing realities” and is pursuing key cross-border economic projects aimed at enhancing cooperation.
The two sides discussed plans for convening a joint economic committee, expanding border and security cooperation, and coordinating the foreign ministries’ agendas for the coming year.
The talks come amid reports from Tajik officials of increased border incidents with Afghanistan over the past year. Authorities in Dushanbe have also said that 2,742 kilograms of narcotics were seized along the Tajik-Afghan border in 2025, underscoring ongoing security concerns.
