Modi Praises Netanyahu Amid Gaza Child Killings

DID Press: While India presents itself internationally as a major Asian power and a defender of human rights, the public praise expressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu amid the ongoing killing of civilians in Gaza Strip has drawn sharp criticism.

Following Modi’s congratulatory message to Netanyahu, many international and human rights analysts pointed to New Delhi’s silence regarding the continued Israeli military operations in Gaza. Modi highlighted the “strong” bilateral relationship and described strategic cooperation between India and Israel as a pillar of progress and peace.

As Israeli military operations in recent months—particularly the latest campaign against Gaza—have resulted in the deaths of thousands of Palestinian children and civilians, Modi, instead of condemning the violence, emphasized the value of friendship between India and Israel and announced a future meeting with Netanyahu during a planned visit to Tel Aviv.

The move has raised questions about India’s stated commitment to human rights and justice on the global stage, given its self-image as one of the world’s largest democracies.
